Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has reopened the Visitor/Super Visa program, specially helping parents and grandparents as Canadian Residents can now sponsor them without much difficulty.
The parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent citizens are allowed to apply for an extended visitor’s visa known as Super Visa to live with their family for a longer duration. The Super visa is generally valid for ten years, in which the candidate can stay for a maximum period of 2 years once a stay. It is a temporary visa and candidates are allowed to stay for a maximum of 2 years in a single visit. This visa is however applicable to a maximum of 10 years. The processing time of this Super Visa is approximately 8 weeks, and, the difference between a Visitor Visa and Super Visa is the status period of each, as in Super Visa candidate can stay up to 2 years and in visitor visa candidate can stay up to 6 to 8 months.
The applicant for a parent and grandparents super visa has to meet certain standards. The application for this visa is submitted to a visa office which can be in or outside of Canada.
The first step involves the applicant to qualify for the eligibility of a regular visitor visa. Apart from having good health and valid travel document, the applicant needs to satisfy a Canadian immigration official that they will leave the country at the end of their authorized stay. Applicants also need to show that they have sufficient ties to their home such as family, property or job and they should also have sufficient funds to be able to support themselves financially for the length of their stay with all the medical exams and health insurances.
